Welcome to my blog!
I come from a family of teachers. It seems like half the women on my mom's side of the family teach. In fact, the reason that I wanted to be a teacher was because of a talk I had with my aunt ...when I was 6. Even before I really knew how school worked, I wanted to be a teacher. I've had other dreams along the way:olympic gymnast, writer, animator, historical interpreter and other jobs along the way: burger-flipper, bookseller, international students' Disney tour guide, substitute teacher, research assistant but TEACHING has always been what I knew I would do.
I earned both of my degrees (BA in History Education & MA in US History/Atlantic World Studies) from the University of West Georgia. I absolutely cannot tell you how much college shaped me as a person. They were the hardest, but best, years of my life so far. Every history class I took, every person in the dorms, every stupid mistake made me stronger. After college, I taught 2 years at Georgia Gwinnett College and then 2 years at Tapp Middle School. That was a great ride! I absolutely love the consensus about my teaching style from student reviews: hard as nails, but also funny & entertaining. This was exactly what I would have said about MY favorite teachers from Middle School, High School, & college, and I am proud that it was said about me.
Today, I am still in Cobb, but now I teach high school. I've gotten married and we have crazy-wonderful dogs and a wonder-inspiring son. They are who I am. I still use my creative energy, but I enjoy bridging the experience of middle school and college to high school students. I want them to discover all the reasons I've spent 10+ years in love with my field. I'm very big on doing this in a way that they can understand -- I use objects, games, simulations, and technology whenever I can.
I love books, Disney movies, the tv show "Friends", my faith, my job, epidemiology & thanatology, my dogs, my family, and my husband. They keep me mostly sane.
